WHAF IF?

WHAF IF?

What if we weren’t so afraid and took that chance? What if we were more loving? Perhaps, at some point in life, we have either asked or heard someone ask the what if question.

In a certain town, so long ago, a prophet pretended hurt and proceeded to cover his eyes with a bandage. He felt he needed the disguise with the bandage to deliver a message to a certain Israelite king. So off he went with a sad tale of wounds and imminent death for failing to complete a task given to him. It was hectic during battle, and he was busy here and there he complained.  The king countered with “as you have said, so shall the ruling be.”
At this, the prophet hurriedly removed his disguise to be recognized. The prophet proclaimed that he, the king, was in fact the subject of the report and therefore, was going to die. Full account is here.

At the end the king retired to his house sullen and vexed. Reminds me of the poem about a little girl with a little curl.

There was a little girl,
Who had a little curl,
Right in the middle of her forehead,
When she was good,
She was very good indeed,
But when she was bad she was horrid.
                                          Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

What if the king asked questions and made no hasty judgement? Perhaps, the outcome would be different.

what if

What

Another king, had an encounter with a prophet as well but with different outcomes. After hearing the well-crafted account, from Prophet Nathan about a man who had killed and wrongfully taken what wasn’t his, King David soon realized he was the guilty man, he judged worthy of death seconds prior. He immediately sought forgiveness.

What if King David went home ill-tempered and grumpy?

Best time to ask ‘what if’?

Perhaps, the best time to ask the “what if” question may be before any deed is done. Asking afterwards may bring with it a tinge of regret, I dare to say.

Thinking through desirable outcomes is not the easiest of tasks. Sometimes, we get it right and the times we fail, that’s okay too because failure helps us grow if we do not give up.

Someone said “when you don’t know what to do, choose to do right”.

So many what ifs…

Well, what if we gave some thought to the attitude and took responsibility? What if we resolved to do our best and completed tasks well? Maybe even be goofy at times and not so angry, made the right call about a situation and are kinder when we have not walked in another’s shoes? These are good places to start.

And what if we start today, dare to be amazing like we planned yesterday?
The right view can help like we see in THROUGH THE LENS

“I am the vine; you are the branches…apart from me you can do nothing.”

John 15:5. The Gideons’ International.

This Jeff Deyo song I heard the other day… maybe you will love it too.
