Out of Akosombo

Out of Akosombo

Out of Akosombo and fond memories! The training venue was the Volta Hotel, less than two hours drive, from Accra, Ghana’s capital if traffic is light. Bags packed, we all looked forward to the travel experience especially as it meant being out of busy Accra for a few days. Besides, road trips can be such fun, yes?

Checking in took a bit of time. Why did it take so long? They knew we were coming, right?

Soon, it was dinner and surprise, it was the eat- all- you- can kind. A delightful spread to choose from. The food was consistently good all through our stay. The lake across was attention grabbing; not to mention the scenic landscape and majestic mountains.

Finally, we all got our rooms. Nice and clean with luxurious sheets, waiting was not so bad after all. Seeing the drinking glasses wrapped in cling-film to keep them clean was a whole mood. All the appliances worked too.

It was back -to -back training sessions. There was a chance to swim. On my balcony looking down at the pool, wanting to swim, but not by myself. A passing staff, looked up and asked if I needed help. Then, he assured me that a lifeguard was available and I would be fine. A lifeguard on standby most of the day. That to me was remarkable. Also, noteworthy was the staff observing and making an effort to help. Frankly, I wasn’t expecting it. Good work ethics, I’ll say!

The short boat ride on the lake was a good experience too, in spite of the rain moments before. There was music from a live band and some dancing.
By the way, the lake is man-made. That’s some history! Out of Akosombo!

Final notes

Kudos to Gideon for the great planning. To my fellow entrepreneurs, who I got to bond with, I say “Ayekoo”. Keep winning!
Shout out to the pool guy for keeping it clean.
Oh, I remember, the cheerful porter who managed our luggage. We were at least twenty.

I’d recommend this hotel to spend time away from the maddening crowd. I hope your experience is just as pleasant.
